Former Factory- Conference Room

We are at the geographical centre of the Province of Jaen, the biggest producer of Olive Oil in the whole world, concretely in the region called La Loma (The Hill) which is composed by thirteen localities from which we can distinguish two World Heritage Cities: Ubeda and Baeza,
Down the alley of the Guadalquivir River, 8km away from Baeza, you can find the place Puente del Obispo, village to which belongs The Hacienda La Laguna The Hacienda received its name because of the nearby natural park called “La Laguna Grande” (The Big Lagoon), situated at about 2km from the museum.

The Hacienda has its origins already in the 17th century when it belonged to the Jesuits. Later, in the 18th and 19th century, the Property passed to The Counts of Oropesa and then, to the Dukes of Alba. In 1848, the Collados, a family from Madrid, bought the Property and decided to make great changes and investments.

They build a factory, a residence for the workers, and for the landlords. This family also decided to reinforce the olive grove culture and planted a hundred olive trees, thanks to which this Hacienda developed into the most productive of the Province. In the 20th century, the Property passed to a rich financer called Juan March. Then, in the 80s’, it was divided between several landowners.
Today, the Domain belongs to the Consortium formed by the Region Andalusia and the City Hall of Baeza, which, after observing the degraded conditions of the Property decided to do something and bought it in 1992.

After several interventions, they decided to take it over, and transformed the place into a Hostel Management School, a Hotel, a Restaurant, a camping, swimming-pools, and the Olive Tree Culture Museum, inaugurated in 1998.
